Re: Cheap flights to Australia
Do they exist?

I suppose if you look on skyscanner you'll find some made up from budget airlines that take the best part of two days.

Having done that journey more times than I care to remember, I'd pay a bit extra..Singapire air have some cheapish flights at the moment and you'll be looked after.

In general when booking flights to save money book mid week to mid week

Re: Cheap flights to Australia
I don't know if this is still the case (or if it ever was one) but apparently ticket prices tend to be cheaper if you look at them Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday as the airlines know people mostly book on the other days of the week.

Re: Cheap flights to Australia
Sometimes, it may help to check fares between Tuesday and Thursday (because most people tend to check/book between Fri and Mon and airlines can up fares during those days), and to have cookies off.

I often follow flight prices and from what I can tell it's a myth.

Re: Cheap flights to Australia
No such thing nowadays. You may get a deal with Virgin/Delta going via Los Angeles but you may have to stay over a night so doesn't really work out well. Best thing to look for is Business Class via unusual routes. My cousin did EVA Air via Tai Pei or Bangkok and it worked out a lot cheaper than BA/Singapore etc.

Also, try going from another EU country as this is sometime cheaper even with a flight to wherever the flight starts.

Cheapest I was quoted for Feb 2024 to Sydney was £1560 on Etihad stopping at Abu Dhabi. Although I am expecting it to drop slightly in July/Aug so will check again then.

Re: Cheap flights to Australia
Flights are normally cheaper when first released as they sell the cheapest fares first.

Cathy Pacific were the going to Bangkok recently for around £500 with Singapore at around £580 IIRC.. so would be the best bets to Oz at the moment.

But I really wouldn't try saving as it really isn't worth it if they're really bad flights.. You will be broken.

Where are you looking to fly to? Or are you doing a tour?

I'm flying to Sydney in November with Qantas. I also have booked a return flight from Sydney to Melbourne, and then back home from Sydney a month later. All seats with extra leg room, and all for £1850.

Oh, and they're not responsible for thinning out the the world's population, either. Never had a fatal crash.

We go quite regularly as my wife has family on the Gold Coast. Looked at flights for this year and they were 50% more expensive than last year for similar dates.

Needless to say we're not going this year!

Q-Q-Q-Quantas never crashed.

Actually they did, and they have had fatalities, but not since 1951 and never on a jet powered plane. On a number of prop planes though.

Qantas have had some near things and been lucky.

If I was booking this trip, I'd fly Thai Airways and have an extended layover in Thailand.

Re: Cheap flights to Australia
A Qantas plane crash landed at Bangkok in 1999. They were lucky there was a golf course to slide into and not something solid. It's rumoured that they paid to fix the plane up rather than write it off and blemish their record.
